Direct Support Worker Reviews
What is it like working as a Direct Support Worker?
May 2016
Commit to help people who can't advocate for themselves.
Direct Support Worker:
Imagine that you had no way of communicating with the rest of the world. You understood everything around you, in fact you understood it too much. When you felt something it was intensified. You tried your best to explain how you were feeling but no one seemed to notice or understand what you were trying to say. Until one day someone came into your life to help you find your voice. That someone could be anyone off the street with little to "entry level" understanding of what your diagnosis is, but they cared SO much about you that they gave you freedom to be yourself.
That "someone" is DSW. We come into the lives of someone who may not be able to fully explain how they are feeling. What their hopes, dreams, or what their interests are. That is why our job is a VERY noble position. Therefore, the decision to apply for this job should not be taken lightly. Do your research. Know yourself, be reliable, be able to stand up for yourself and don't forget that someones life is at stake.
