Retail General Manager (GM) Reviews

What is it like working as a Retail General Manager (GM)?

October 2014
Underpromise and overdeliver.
Retail General Manager (GM):
Make sure you understand the situation before making a decision.
May 2014
Retail General Manager (GM):
Pros: Years age the company was growing and managed well. In recent years I have become one with some of the companies decisions and direction.
Cons: To much pressure and stress in areas that are beyond my control.
May 2014
Retail General Manager (GM):
Medium stress, very high paced, very specialized, high level of gear knowledge necessary, empathy and compassion, humble.
January 2014
Retail General Manager (GM):
Pros: I love the product that we sell. The training given is pretty good, they send store managers to Atlanta for training!
Cons: We do not make nearly enough for everything that we do. The sales approach is extremely aggressive and you get graded every week based on sales. How slow your mall is, is not taken into account. If you "pass" (D or above) but don't sell $30 average each transaction, you will be written up. If you sell $30 average but get an F, you will be written up. Human resources doesn't seem to care if you submit a complaint about management. There have been probably a dozen complaints about our area manager in the last 12 months and nothing has changed at all.
January 2014
Tough And Uncertain.
Retail General Manager (GM):
Pros: I enjoy my team, developing them and celebrating their successes.
Cons: The pressure, the lack of support and recognition and the never ending fear that hangs over all of us.
