General Motors Corporation Reviews

What is it like working at General Motors Corporation?

Low end pay.
Software Engineer in Austin:
Pros: I love my team
Cons: I don't like the compensation and also new college grads have been getting shafted by bait and switch. They interview for software engineer and then get put on a team that is primarily data entry or some other low level data job.
Beware of being lied to about your responsibilities.
Software Developer in Austin:
Pros: Work environment is fairly relaxed, large amount of paid time off + unlimited sick days
Cons: Willingness for company to lie about the role you will be performing and little to no career progression opportunities
Great benefits, hard to leave.
Systems Developer in Warren:
Pros: Great benefits (8% 401k contribution from GM) and time off - 4 weeks PTO after 1 year.
Cons: No clear path for advancement. Hard to find a better employer in the area means that you may feel a bit stuck here and find that others have the same issue.
Treated Poorly.
Software Developer in Detroit:
Pros: The opportunities and potential to make change.
Cons: A lot of opportunity exists to help make GM better than Tesla, but middle management is extremely reluctant to new technologies and change. They’d rather coast on a paycheck to keep their jobs than taking risks with new ideas. Direct management does not have the proper leadership skills to culture a new developer. First year devs should not be expected to deliver in their first 3 months on the job. We need to learn before we can apply. I was shunned for not producing fast enough in my first two months. Disrespected and looked down on by my manager.
Good pay, experience can depend on your manager and coworkers.
Senior Mechanical Engineer in Madison Heights:
Pros: I have a good manager who supports my decisions and will back me up. My co workers help each other out.
Cons: When there a project is due it can mean long hours is there are late issues.
It’s a satisfying job with a lot to learn and be creative and innovative at most things you do.
Controls Engineer in Warren:
Pros: It’s rewarding in a sense that you can make a difference to the product and customer satisfaction.
Cons: Too much of work, uneven workload distribution, uneven pay distribution.
Not terrible.
Autobody Technician in Saskatoon:
Pros: There's nothing great about it honestly. It seems like GM doesnt even want to pay its employees fairly. They dont provide any bonuses or perks. They don't go out of the way to provide tools or incentives at all
Cons: Doing warranty work is absolutely horrendous. Typically GM pays 40% less than industry standard for warranty. This affects the bottom of the ladder the most. Technicians get paid much less for the same types of jobs
