Stressful.
Alteration Tailor in Eau Claire, Wisconsin:
Pros: How customers react to a properly fitting garment.
Cons: Lack of understanding and appreciation for what I do.
Under Paid & Under Appreciated.
Customer Service Associate in Hillsboro, Oregon:
Pros: As long as you are professional and within dress code, you can wear whatever you like and freely express your style- wear any color and any fabric; with the exception to denim specifically but there has had some exception on "business casual days," but there was female-discrimination because we do not sell female denim... that was addressed rather quickly when word got out. Overall, it was interesting to see my coworker's outfits vary from day to day.
Cons: For someone who has worked 5 years in a high-turnover position & no raise... I was told not to tell anybody I was working full time without -much needed- health benefits by my managers. I decided I was ready to go back to school to finish my degree & did not ask for the formal wear manager position (I was groomed for) & my store manager word-for-word said, "you have no plans for your life," which was not true nor their business (anybody should have freedom from judgement to explore their life's potential directions, especially while in school); all behind closed doors with my store manager hovering above me, a tall guy with little emotional regulation, & his new side-kick the new formal-wear manager said, "do you even want to work here?" I paused confused why she would even ask that after I have been there 5 years, she quickly said, "no?" I ask, "did you just answer for me?" My store manager cut the ‘talk’ off & said -their- emotions were running high, I walked away to welcome a customer, while the new manager cried behind the store as if I offended her? I felt that their analysis of me was unreasonable. I gave my efforts to a ‘team’ thinking I might get support back, but the goal post kept moving as if no matter how much I give, I was never good enough. My boss was wildly passive-aggressive playing "Mr. Nice-Guy" which felt gas-lighting. I am not upset anymore, just disappointed; but it will be their loss, I am finding a more productive place to grow.
