January 2020
Environmental Specialist in Prairieville:
Short on resources, the company was once a leader in all areas, but in the last 15 years is less than world class environmentally due to business desires to increase profits and decrease expenditures. The company has put a diversity hiring practice in place that doesn’t get the best employees, but the cheapest employees. The result is the entry level employee is often ill suited and replacement employees with experience are usually not well suited at the level they are hired. It has increased a great deal of rework and stepping back to do work for others that are not capable. If I were hiring out today BASF would not be my employer of choice. The company once fostered a culture that developed and mentored young employees up the ladder to keep their careers moving. Now the company claims this is the case still, but few advancement opportunities ever exist. The company has also brought in many new employees to be managers from competing companies which has confused and even diluted the once BASF corporate culture of innovation. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if we are BASF, Dow, or Huntsman. Corporate identity suffers here.

Environmental Specialist in Atlanta:
Pros: The job and independence I'm given to do my work. Manager does not micromanage. He trusts my ability to do things correctly.
Cons: Low pay. It's funny that upper management is having a retirement crisis and thus hiring younger workers, but how do you expect them to want to stay with such a below-average salary given the cost of living in Atlanta is so high? No wonder their turnaround rate is so high.
