What is it like working at Head Start?

My job is great and our company does great things.
Assistant Bookkeeper in Detroit:
Pros: The people, the community and what we do to make little children's lives better!
Cons: The pay, it is getting better but with federal/state funding we have to be competitive.
It is a great place to work.
Support Services Assistant in Flint:
Pros: Our company does amazing job with students and family
Cons: Our pay scale is not the greatest. We are run by funding from State and Federal Grants and we have to budget staff salaries and sometimes they are the least in the budget.
Rewarding to the children and community.
Teacher in Chincoteague:
Pros: Interacting with the children
Cons: Challenging situations and lack of support
Satisfying but lacking financially.
Support Services Assistant in Flint:
Pros: The work we do for under privileged kids in our community helping with their education and helping parents with community needs.
Cons: Financial compensation is unfair in the way of someone who worked her 16 yrs and someone who worked her only 4 make the same about per hour.
Very demanding & Stressful.
Family Service Worker in Baltimore:
Pros: The children. My co-workers. The difference made in those families lives that take full advantage of the program.
Cons: The entitlement attitude of some of the parents. The lack of parent participation. Working with low income families.
Rewarding but unappreciated.
Preschool Teacher, (but not Special Education) in Savannah:
Pros: The children and fellow co workers
Cons: The administration and lack of support for teachers
Income vs. Efforts: unbalanced.
Preschool Teacher Assistant in Logan:
Pros: I love to guide the children in my care. It is great to be part of the discovery process.
Cons: I love what I do, but I don't get paid enough to continue and be financially secure.
