What is it like working at Xactware Inc.?

Software Developer:
Overall it's good -- though I know the following review is critical. Benefits package is great. Culture is good. Perks are good. Pay is so-so. Bonus is great. PTO is great. They are kind of old school in some things they do. The industry they service (insurance) is slow to adopt change and I think it bleeds over into the company. There is an overall culture of being willing to make things better and update things. Big promotions go to friends and family, historically. This is changing a little, but if you're part of the boss's "lunch club" you're a shoe-in for a promotion. You probably won't really be pushed or challenged here, it's super easy to coast and just be a little cog in the big machine. Some devs like that, others don't. There is little room for you to make a unique contribution. There are definite processes and they reign supreme. There are good people there. There are smart people there. Team I was on had good chemistry. Biggest issue with Xactware is that giving extra effort and trying to really deliver makes zero difference in your bonus or annual raise. The way their performance management is structured (a curve where the vast majority of people fall in the "average" range, upper management always take the top tier for themselves) just doesn't reward you at all if you are a great dev doing your thing. Not that I was an all-star dev, but even if I was it doesn't matter. It's all about just not being the worst person on the team who gets to be the guy that fil
