What is it like working as a Managing Editor?

February 2019
Great Opportunities.

Cons: Lots of agencies, not as many companies headquartered here.

Working in Sevierville.
Managing Editor in Sevierville:
Pros: The community
Cons: It’s small and no room for growth
January 2019
Managing Editor:
Large company with little room for advancement. Pays under market rates. Big disconnect between editorial and events teams. Poor technical/IT resources due to mass layoffs. Lots of uncertainties with transition to ownership under Informa.
December 2018
Managing Editor:
Overall, the work is fun, the people are nice, benefits are fine, and there's a lot of mentoring and problem-solving. However, the Miami office has been marginalized recently and there's no room for growth. Salaries are already low, and people are expected to work long into the night to stick to unrealistic, unsustainable schedules. Project budgets have been cut, too, and the only solution is to downgrade quality. It's really no wonder there's a lot of turnover.

I get to showcase the amazing sporting talent in SA.
Managing Editor:
Pros: Finding new and innovative ways to circulate our magazine. Strategy. Ideas for keeping it fresh and ahead of the competition. Finding new talent and exposing it. Editing the videos and launching the magazine monthly. Working with amazing journalists. Networking with schools, universities and sports lovers. The challenge of finding advertisers.
Cons: Chasing advertisers for bookings. Sending out accounts. Disciplining staff. Airplane flights. Leaving my family for business trips.
